Minor League Free Agency

Players not on a Major League 40-man roster become minor league free agents on October 15 if they meet any of the following conditions:
- The player must be six or more years removed from the end of their first minor league season and may not have a contract for the upcoming season.
- A team can also choose not a to renew a player's contract or release him, in which he case he could also become a minor league free agent.
In other words, a player is eligible for minor league free agency if he has played all or part of seven seasons in the major or minor leagues and is not placed on a team's 40-man roster by October 15 of that year.
